It’s perhaps a bit of a cliche, but I have to mention Angels in America as one of my favourite queer plays. It’s about the AIDS epidemic and also about politics and ideas about other worlds. It’s the longest play I’ve ever seen, complicated and multi-layered with stories spinning into other stories.
In truth I never meant to see the play. Had read about it a lot and wasn’t very excited but a few years ago there was a broadcast from a London show in Icelandic art-house cinema Bíó Paradís. The play is so long it was two nights in a row and I was rather sceptical about it all but decided to go – and the play has hardly left my mind ever since.
